It is said, in ancient times the Japanese worshiped Mt. Fuji. Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa was also revered in times gone by. I thought it absurd that rational people would do such a thing, until an experience in Alaska opened my mind. I was flying from Anchorage to Fairbanks. It was a beautiful day, the plane flying high above a ridge of mountains forming an arch across the land. The tips of the peaks were far below, looking like a row of up-turned pointed paper cups. Pretty, but not terribly impressive. I watched the shadow of our plane slide over them and was musing on the amazing ingenuity and intelligence of man when the shadow began to shift.
